This Post Has Nothing To Do With Making Cards

BUT it does have everything to do with why I would make a card -LOVED ones… our friends and family AND making applesauce.

Here’s the crew (myself obviously) above are my parents otherwise known as Papa and Nana. Can you believe they drove an hour and a half just to make applesauce all day. Below is Luna, I would say that she was clean up crew but she didn’t want the apples until they were cooked.

IMG_0013

The BEFORE photo, we started with 4 pecks of Cortland seconds- they look pretty perfect to me.

IMG_0010

Papa really makes short work of these apples with the peeler.

IMG_0014

This is how they look after peeled, spiral cut and Nana does the fine work to get the last little bits off that the peeler can’t get due to the irregularities of the apples.

IMG_0017

Don’t worry all those peels and cores don’t go to waste, they go into the juicer. After straining with some muslin I pour off the top for cider.

IMG_0016

The “meat” of the apples go into a pot with a bit of water  and cooked until soft. IMG_0020

I will skip to the final product and spare everyone the mutilation of apples by the blender. After canning we were going to let them cool in the garage but late fall came early this year and it was just too cold and windy. So too the laundry room they went.IMG_0021.jpg

Comment below with your guess of how many gallons of applesauce and apple cider was made. One small hint… there are mostly quart size jars were used.

Now don’t think that there isn’t a card in this blog at all! One of my all time favorite thank you cards will be going out to my incredible parents who give so much and ask so little in return.
