Fall is undoubtedly my favorite season, with fall comes applesauce day at my house. It maybe just my opinion but Northeast Ohio has a apple orchards that may rival Washington state! This year applesauce day just convienently fell on the first weekend of fall which means I was a little too early for my favorite apple for sauce Paula Reds. Don't feel sorry though because Honeycrips were bountiful! The photo of us peeling, cooking and canning above was taken by Sidney hence she is not in the picture but trust me NO one runs the juicer like she does! 4 bushels of Honeycrisp apples, my whole family, one hot kitchen and applesauce day was a complete success in record time. What do we get to show for our labors... 17 gallons of cinnamon applesauce and 8.75 gallons of applejuice/cider. WOW! It's a good thing apples are my favorite fruit, ok, in truth my other favorite fruit is just behind all those jars of apple sauce in the photo below... grapes, the fermented kind! Just one more reason fall is my favorite season.
